Why this exists

Today’s token spend across the AI CLIs I actually use, read from files those tools already write to disk. No network calls, no dependencies, and no dashboard I have to remember to open, because it sits on the desktop where I already look.

Being honest about what each provider actually reports

Claude Code and Gemini CLI give per-call or per-message counts with timestamps, so those figures are exact. Cursor records tokens for only some requests and dates them by conversation rather than by message, so that figure is marked as a floor rather than an exact number. Copilot writes no token counts to disk at all, so it stays out of every total rather than being estimated.

The fourteen day chart above is real usage: an average of 11.3 million tokens a day, a peak of 21 million, and two days over target, with the days the app was not running shown as gaps rather than zeros.

Every provider is honest about what it does not report, not just what it does.
